What is the most beautiful place you have travelled to?
Not the most stunning place in the world, but the Eskdale Valley in the lakes. I wild-camped there last summer. There were some spectacular sites to be seen on every bit of our journey there and again when leaving. But the valley itself wins first place for me as when it was empty of all other human life it was thrilling; completely what I set out to see on that holiday. The mountains, the river, the marsh, the boulders, all of it.

Tell a travel nightmare story you have had
I had a train home from catch in Ravenglass in the early afternoon, and by late morning I was still in Wasdale - with no car. We had to walk with all of our camping equipment over the screes by Wasdale Head and it was terrifyingly steep in places. I feel like the screes would have been fun to clamber over if not for the terrible weather, giant spiders and the huge backpack I was carrying.
If the screes were not tiring enough we still had a large amount of ground to cover to get to The Green stop on the mini-railway, and only a very small space of time to do it in. We had to climb over Irton Fell(?) and it was incredibly unpleasant. It was raining, there were many bogs, time was against us, there was a serious chance we would miss our train, we had massive backpacks and we were already tired from the screes. However, there was no time to stop.
We finally got to where we thought The Green Stop was with around twenty minutes to spare - and it wasn’t there. We got lost in a small suburb with no idea where to go. It was disastrous - we were twenty minutes away form missing the last train of the day, stuck in the middle of nowhere with no transport - if we missed that train we’d miss our next pre-booked train home and be stuck with nowhere to go until we could get someone to come pick us up - which would have taken well over a day.
By luck we bumped into a man and asked him for directions. We followed his pointer but seemed to be getting nowhere. Five minutes left.
We next bumped into a sweet old lady who told us we were going in the completely wrong direction. It was heartbreaking. We ran, backtracking the length of the suburb as fast as we could with our tired legs and huge bags, convinced we would miss the train.
We made it with a minute to spare. I have never been so relieved.
There was one bit of good luck: the train conductor was in a rush to get home that day and let us on for free, saving us £7 each. It was a horrible experience that I would hate to relive, but an excellent memory all the same.

If you could go right now to anywhere in the world for travel purposes (not to visit someone) where would it be?
Oh gosh. It feels wasteful to not say the top of Mount Everest, the bottom of the sea or the north pole, but I’m really feeling like I want to go to Norway lately. I’d like to see Aurora Borealis from there.

Which countries have you travelled to/visited/lived in?
France, Spain, Cyprus, America, Ireland, Scotland, Wales (my boyfriend would not be impressed as he’s often told me that Scotland and Wales and England are NOT actually countires these days)
I’ve also been to Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and I *think* Germany but I was much to young to remember any of that so they don’t really count.

When I say ‘Travel’ the first word that comes into your head is…..
Adventure

Tell a Happy Travel Memory story.
Me and my boyfriend had been having an exhausting time trying to find a good spot to pitch our tent when we were wild camping in the lakes. It was already getting dark by the time we were pitching on our spot. It wasn’t a desirable spot but it was too late to find better.
We were both incredibly stressed, hungry, tired and cold. Once we had sorted ourselves out it suddenly dawned on us how magnificent we were. We were literally the only people for miles, camping in the wild in our own private valley with only sheep for company. The whole place was intimidating yet inspiring and somehow felt safe.
It was a clear night and we watched the moon rise over the mountains together. It was beautiful.
